Welcome to Tooth Truths, the official blog of Central Berks Dental Center!
Here at Central Berks Dental Center, we are committed to providing professional, reliable, and patient-centered dental care and services. We consider ourselves to be educators first and look forward to start bringing you dental information and tips through our blog! First order of business – introducing our dentists and our practice!
GET TO KNOW US
Central Berks Dental Center was founded in 1980 by Dr. John Stephen Hottenstein; in 2009, Dr. Hottenstein (or Dr. Steve) was joined by his son, Dr. Jordan Hottenstein. Dr. Steve was born in Bethlehem, PA, but spent most of his youth in Lost Angeles, CA. Dr. Steve had initially planned on a career in social work; however, his college graduation coincided with the draft for the Vietnam War. Rather than be drafted, Dr. Joined the United States Navy, eventually becoming a Naval Flight Officer. Serving as a Bombardier-Navigator from 1969-1972, Lt. Hottenstein recorded 300 carrier landings and 175 combat missions while cruising the Gulf of Tonkin aboard the USS Enterprise. During his service, Lt. Hottenstein befriended a Navy Dentist who encouraged Lt. Hottenstein to consider a career in dentistry once discharged – and, boy, are we happy Dr. Steve heeded this advice! Dr. Steve attended Albright College for 2 years to complete his dental school requirements and then went on to receive his DDS in 1979 from Temple University School of Dentistry.
Dr. Jordan, one of Dr. Steve’s 4 children, has, in turn, been learning about teeth his entire life! Dr. Jordan was born and raised in Berks County. After graduating from Wyomissing Area High School in 2001, Dr. Jordan completed his undergraduate degree at West Chester University of PA. During this time, he spent his college summers working at a dental laboratory – and realized at this time that dentistry was the career for him. After completing his degree a semester early, Dr. Jordan spent the winter of 2005 living as a ski bum, working the ski lift at Copper Mountain in Colorado. He then followed in his father’s footsteps, receiving his DDS from Temple University School of Dentistry in 2009.
WHAT WE DO
As General & Family Dentists, Dr. Steve and Dr. Jordan provide any service pertaining to the oral cavity and oral health. This includes: routine hygiene maintenance, fillings, cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening, pediatric dental care, crowns, bridges, dentures, partials, implant dentistry, and everything in between. Drs. Hottenstein feel very fortunate to live and work in an area where there are extremely talented dental specialists, dentists who have received advanced training after dental school. By working in conjunction with these specialists (and we only work with the best at what they do!), Dr. Steve and Dr. Jordan can most effectively help you achieve your desired goals and your overall dental health. Our promise will always be the Golden Rule – to treat all of our patients the way we ourselves would want to be treated. We cannot wait to be cleared to return to work and open our doors again to our patients, who truly feel like family to us!
